Emmy Dolls 2011
The 63rd Annual Emmy Awards aired last night and it seems that the trend was soft ringlets, side swept ponytails and a few up-do's sprinkled in. The Glee kids, by the way, were my fav looks of the night!
Coconut Oil! Nature's Gift To Hair!
If you're looking for a way to naturally nurture your skin and hair, then look no further than you local health food store. Pure coconut oil has great benefits that will condition, soften and naturally moisturize your hair and skin without the harmful chemicals that are found in other products.
Here are some benefits:
1. If you oil your hair on a regular basis with coconut oil, it improves the blood circulation in your scalp and preconditions your hair. It has also been scientifically proven to reduce the problem of hair loss over a period of time.
2. It helps in premature-greying.
3. Along with lots of water, coconut water also cleanses your system, leaving you fresh faced.
Along with weight loss, digestion and other benefits coconut oil is one of the best natural options. For more information on the make-up of coconut oil, it's contents and other benefits check out Organic Facts, here!
Weave Thieves? Bad Karma?
How many of you would buy your bundles off the street?
It seems the black market has been buzzing with the newest trend, human hair. Thieves are taking to stores and stealing premium hair and bundles and selling them in the street for less than the retail price. While some bundles can reach up to $200, trying to cut corners may be some people's first option.
Freaky fact about that stolen Indian Remy is, in Hindu tradition, the hair from birth is associated with undesirable traits from past lives. Thus at the time of the mundan, the child is freshly shaven to signify freedom from the past and moving into the future. It is also said that the shaving of the hair stimulates proper growth of the brain and nerves, and that the sikha, a tuft at the crown of the head, protects the memory
So isn't that like double bad karma sewn into your head?
St. Louis today reports,"In the Atlanta area, a series of smash-and-grab robberies that began this spring at beauty supply stores has resulted in at least $100,000 worth of hair being stolen. Similar thefts have taken place in Chicago, Houston, San Diego and other cities nationwide where the take has ranged from $10,000 to $150,000 worth of hair per heist."
Isn't enough that in a billion dollar business, black women represent the lowest number of recipients and investors in the industry? By the way, one store owner in Michigan was killed in a robbery gone wrong. So not only in a quest to be different, glamorous, luxurious...we are infatuated with the strands of other people, but now it's by any means necessary?
I'm not sure the remedy. Do we stop buying weave all together (That's not going to happen)? Do we boycott the black market sellers (That's not going to happen either)? It reminds me of blood diamonds...how much integrity do you have? Because somewhere, someone is being hurt by purchasing goods that have not been through the correct economic process. I'm just saying, the next time someone pops the trunk and there's that 1B bundle, ask where it came from...and how.
Cutting Corners? Fashion Ads That Fail
I get it. Companies need to cut corners by any means necessary. Sometimes, that means the "glam squad" gets compromised, because the clothes and the model will speak for themselves right? Wrong.
Wigs have been used numerous times on set, in fact, it's one of the quickest ways to change styles, conserve time and change the models "look" without cutting or changing her natural hair. However, when companies like Balenciaga allow their hairstylist to use a wig such as the one above and then use it in their ad campaigns, I have to say, it's a complete fail. This looks awful to say the least and I'd like to think that hair and make-up are a part of the entire look.
There are so many talented individuals in the hair and make-up industry and so many fashion houses, that I understand, sometimes there's just not enough opportunity to go around. But when you are producing million dollar designs, the "glam" should look like that too.

Spring Hair: Pin Up Doll
Tracy Reese was overheard backstage at her fashion show this week at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week saying, "Let's just skip the next six months." Yes! That would be ideal. Celebrity Stylist Jeanie Syfu is once again returning to lead the TRESemme Stylist Team backstage in creating show-stopping looks at the Tracy Reese, Charlotte Ronson and Rebecca Minkoff shows.
In the Tracy Reese show, Syfu opted to pair Reese's, flower, feminine designs with pin-ups! It seems spring is all about the face, the clothes and the look and not distracting anything with the hair. Sleek pull ups and different loose rolls have been seen around fashion week, giving the chance to enhance the facial structure and highlight those eyes!

Bees on the Runway!
Kelly Osbourne hit up Macy's for Fashion's Night Out and she was rocking one of the trends that have been lingering from spring--the Beehive. Fall's trends include solid colors, with sleek looks and solid lines, so a perfectly shaped beehive is a great way to pull your look together.
Tips for a dope hive? One, flat iron your hair first. Get all the kinks, wrinkles, and waves out prior to using hairspray and pins.
Two, use a moveable hairspray like Matrix or Paul Mitchell and wait till it dries before you start teasing and shaping. When you work with wet hairspray it gets tacky and makes your hands feel yucky!
And finally, separate your bang first and then comb it into the bun in the back to give your hive a fresh look.
If you are wondering how to get the height--just do a little teasing and combing and then pull a smooth section over your "hump" to pull it all together!
Hair Buns & Cheese!
One style that NEVER goes out of style is the bun. It instantly takes you from cheap to chic in minutes.
Paired with a bold lipstick, and a hot pair of heels this look takes you from day to night also.
While some are neat and sleek, a loose messy bun works too!
Block This!
One of the major trends last night at New York's Fashion's Night Out? Yep. It's still going strong from spring: Color Blocking. Here are some of my favorite looks.
Street Doll! Ava!
She's actually a Music Doll and we ran across her pics on Facebook (Thanks to mutual friends) and couldn't resist featuring her on Girl! Get Dolled Up!
She just released a free EP (6 song mini album) in August and she also has a single on Itunes:
Debut EP 'OVER THE LEDGE' is now available for free download!
http://avamusic.bandcamp.com/
Download Ava's single "The Pain of It"
http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-pain-of-it-single/id406441522
As far as those gorgeous curls?
Ava's favorite products: "I don't use a lot, I actually don't use shampoo (such a smart doll! Shampoos strips your hair of natural oils sometimes) so I co-wash with Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Conditioner. I rinse and also leave in. I also like Shea Moisture curl enhancing smoothie leave in conditioner. I like pure almond oil, I will also use coconut oil and occasionally add a few drops of rosemary."
Can you hear her hair singing?? Now that's a great way to give your locks love!

FNO Trends
NYC was jumping last night with Fashion Dolls (and some Ken Dolls) from all over kicking off fashion week! The best part about FNO is that you get to see SO many different styles and so many different trends. Everyone comes out and it's like this sea of inspiration. There were so many Fly Dolls, it was impossible to capture them all. However, here are a couple of The Dollhouse's favorites:
Braids & Twists
Caught these dolls in Jimmy Choo, rocking pretty styles.
Jeffrey Campbell shoes were EVERYWHERE!
and Fashion Dolls are everywhere!
Dolls Night Out!
Fashion's Night Out was a blast! I mean what other night do you go shopping to shop?
First Stop: Marc Jacobs
Marc Jacobs was cool. Dakota Fanning's little sister Elle stopped by, The carnival t-shirts were cool and they had champagne in a can. If you shelled out some dough they were giving away these limited edition carnival totes:
Street Doll Veronika with her chic bun, getting the goods from MJ:
Outside, we ran into this Mini Doll, who was adorable for Fashion's Night Out. How cool is it to be in NYC and get to experience fashion like this!
I inquired about her cute lace-up wedges and she said, "I got them at Bakers"! So cute!
After we wrapped with Marc Jacobs--who by the way, should have had the carnival popping with cotton candy and other goodies, but Jimmy Choo picked up the slack! Red carpet pictures, champagne, some amazing drink with watermelon in it, mini grilled cheese, sliders, tacos, shrimp...oh and SHOES! duh!
Me and Street Doll Nicole, in Jimmy Choo getting wasted! (Tastefully of course!)
Street Doll Nicole trying on Jimmy Choo's!!
After the Choo, we headed over to the Teen Vogue tent, which by the way is no longer sponsored by Starbuck's but Arizona. However, they were giving out Essie manicures with the new fall collection (Try the "Case Study"--so cute!) We ran into Ciara--who looked fabulous by the way and we mingled through the party at Juicy, the preps at Rugby, MAC and the live models at Brooks Brothers.
We also ran into two adorable Street Dolls on Seventh Ave, looking so summer/fall chic.
After we trekked from The Village we stopped for sake and sushi, and then hit the cobblestones of Soho. Which was like the biggest fashion block party I've ever seen in my life!
and we ended FNO and Soho with Michael Kors!
